Shenandoah River Bass

Beat the heat of the summer and the hustle and bustle of the cities and let the river float you away. We have access to some of the best smallmouth bass fishing in the valley, and while many rivers are smaller than the James or Potomac, they hold quality fish in high numbers. Start your first day float after a filling breakfast at one of Staunton’s great diners. Glide silently along the Middle River, little known and only able to float with private land access. Fortunately we have a great relationship with several organizations and landowners that permit us to basically have a personal smallmouth fishery.

No one has landed a 20” yet, but we got plenty of 17-18”+ on streamers and topwater poppers. Enjoy a streamside lunch as you notice the abundant bird life. Chances are we will have a heron chase us downstream half the trip trying to keep us away from his fish. Staunton has a variety of lodging and dining options and the evening is completely up to you. Let us know if you want a rustic cabin or an upscale micro-hotel downtown. We can prepare a private dinner for you, or we will set up your reservations for the best places in town. After breakfast on Sunday, the Shenandoah River is our destination. Larger water provides for longer casts and bigger fish. Plan to wear out your arm throwing 8 weights and big flies. Some of the largest smallmouth are pulled from the Shenandoah every year. Another shore lunch will refuel you for the home stretch, and a steel leader rigged rod will be ready if you want to take a chance at a few musky during the last couple miles of the river. I assure you by the end of the trip you’ll say “what trout?”

Augusta County provides a variety of lodging and dining options. We want you to experience your trip the way you want. That means we will handle everything. From daily prepared meals, transportation to the stream, gear, reservations and lodging. Please contact us today so we can put together your unique fly fishing experience.
