Tye River Float
Nelson County’s Route 151 is well known for its local wineries and breweries, and people flock to Wintergreen and Crabtree Falls for their slice of the outdoors. Here’s your chance to have a mountain and stream all to yourself. Private access to Meili Mountain allows us to fish for native and stocked brook trout in an inclusive environment. Fish the falls, pools, and pocket water of the upper Tye for brookies eager to pounce on small dry flies. Take a lunch break next to your own 30’ waterfall. This spot is only able to be seen from the property and is a great place to rest and take some photos.

Finish your day by enjoying some of the local scene, or just kick back at a fishing camp while we prepare your custom meal and we bring the local to you. After a filling breakfast, hop on the raft to fish the Rockfish River. Though small, several stretches offer opportunities for smallmouth and largemouth bass, and warm water species abound. It’s always fun to see how many different types of fish you end up with. A shore lunch will keep you filled up as we end the day picking up local BBQ on the way back. The third day is your opportunity to customize your own trip. An early morning hike provides excellent images of Crabtree Falls, and spend the afternoon fishing the lower stretches of the falls. Another option is to head west towards Staunton where a private trophy trout stream awaits. After catching native brookies and smallmouth, get your local slam by landing 15”+ rainbows and browns in over a mile of stream. Bring your camera and your sense of adventure for this one of a kind experience.
Nelson County provides a variety of lodging and dining options. We want you to experience your trip the way you want. That means we will handle everything.
